The Lyme Disease Association of Ontario (L.D.A.O.) conducted scientific research to determine the presence of the Lyme disease spirochete (bacterium), Borrelia burgdorferi (Bb) not only in Ontario but various locations across Canada. Vector ticks were obtained from bird banders and wildlife rehabilitators nationwide to determine distribution of Bb by bird-associated ticks. As well, several populations of blacklegged ticks, Ixodes scapularis, and Lyme disease endemic areas in Ontario were studied. The scientific articles are listed in chronological order as follows:
1. Bb discovered in tick on mainland Ontario (1995) 2. Bb in I. scapularis in Thunder Bay District (1996) 3. First isolation of Bb from tick collected from bird in Canada (1999) 4. Bb in I. scapularis collected from dogs, Ontario (2000) 5. Bb isolated from I. scapularis, Rondeau Provincial Park (2000) 6. Birds disperse Lyme-carrying ticks, Canada (2001) 7. Rondeau Prov. Park endemic for Lyme disease (2003) 8. Turkey Point endemic for Lyme disease (2004) 9. First isolation of Bb from avian tick, I. auritulus (2005) 10. 10-year tick-host study in Ontario (2006) 11. Turkey Point Provincial Park endemic for Lyme disease (2008) 12. Lyme Disease from ticks collected from Songbirds in Ontario (2009) 13. Novel Bb genotypes in Lyme-carrying ticks from birds across Canada. (2010) 14. Widespread Dispersal of Bb-Infected Ticks Collected from Songirds across Canada
